I have a rule I’ve never shared with my children: if they ask me to take a picture, I’ll always say yes, no matter how I look or feel. When they show me the photo, I always say, “I love me!” or “I’m so pretty!”
I never speak negatively about my appearance in front of them. Even with the extra pregnancy and breastfeeding weight, I refuse to talk down about my body around my kids.
This extends to not avoiding cameras, mirrors, or the spotlight.
After six years of being kind to myself for their sake, I’ve discovered the secret: it stops being an act and becomes your reality. Eventually, you start believing the positive things you say to yourself.
